Treasure: Burnaway Reader 2021

The anthology is organized into three sections related to the editorial themes Burnaway has explored this year: Word of Mouth, Belief and Fiction, and Nodes and Networks. Highlights of the fifteen features include curator Daniel Fuller’s profile of blues musician and sculptor James “Son Ford” Thomas, Jessica Baran’s abbreviated history of Lost Roads poetry press founded in Arkansas, Jasmine Amussen’s conversation with artists and curators about Southern queer networks and architecture, and a bilingual story of Puerto Rican artist Natalia Lassalle-Morillo by Monica Uszerowicz.

Jasmine Amussen's conversation with Southern queer artists, includes Jackie Clay and Bo McGuire, in partnership with The Invisible Histories Project, an organization that locates, preserves, researches, and creates for local communities an accessible collection of the rich and diverse history of LGBTQ life in Alabama, Mississippi and Georgia. IHP acts as an intermediary between the Queer community and various institutions like universities, museums, archives, and libraries in order to preserve Southern LGBTQ histories. With regard to this historic conversation with Alabamian changemakers, we believe Treasure would find a special home at BMA!
