F. Scott Fitzgerald (1896–1940) was an American writer best known for capturing the glamour, ambition, and disillusionment of the Jazz Age. Born in Saint Paul, Minnesota, Fitzgerald showed an early talent for writing and attended Princeton University, though he left before graduating to join the army during World War I. 

Fitzgerald’s most famous work, The Great Gatsby (1925), explores wealth, ambition, and the illusion of the American Dream through the mysterious millionaire Jay Gatsby and his longing for Daisy Buchanan. Though the novel was not a major success when first published, it is now considered one of the greatest American novels.
